Skilled nurse instructed the patient on differentiating chest pain related to congestive heart failure (CHF) versus musculoskeletal pain. Patient was educated that cardiac-related chest pain is commonly described as pressure, tightness, or heaviness and may radiate to the arm, jaw, or back. Musculoskeletal pain was explained as typically increasing with movement or palpation and improving with rest or position changes.
Skilled nurse educated the patient on signs and symptoms requiring immediate medical attention, including persistent or severe chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, or diaphoresis. Patient was instructed to call 911 or seek emergency medical care if chest pain does not resolve with rest or prescribed medications.
Skilled nurse reinforced the importance of limiting exertion as tolerated, adhering to prescribed medication regimen, and promptly reporting new or worsening symptoms to the primary care provider. Patient verbalized understanding of education provided.
