Lupron (leuprolide) injection Medication Teaching – p26010069

SN provided medication teaching regarding Lupron (leuprolide) injection and reviewed common/expected side effects, with emphasis on fatigue. Patient was instructed that fatigue can occur after administration and may be temporary, and to monitor energy level and activity tolerance following injections.

SN instructed patient on fatigue-management strategies to promote safety and comfort, including:

  • Pacing activities and planning rest periods after the injection and throughout the day as needed.
  • Maintaining adequate hydration and balanced nutrition to support energy and overall well-being.
  • Engaging in light physical activity as tolerated (short walks/stretching), with rest breaks, as this may help improve energy over time.
  • Safety precautions if feeling weak or tired (rise slowly, avoid overexertion; use assistance/assistive device as needed to reduce fall risk).

Patient was instructed to report severe, worsening, or persistent fatigue to the prescribing provider, especially if accompanied by concerning symptoms (e.g., dizziness/lightheadedness, shortness of breath, chest pain, fainting, or inability to perform usual activities). Education was reinforced to support adherence to the treatment plan and prompt reporting of adverse effects.

Teach-back (required): Patient was able to verbalize understanding of the teaching. Patient correctly stated that fatigue may occur after Lupron injections, will plan rest periods, maintain hydration and nutrition, and perform light activity as tolerated. Patient accurately repeated when to notify the healthcare provider, including severe, worsening, or persistent fatigue and any associated concerning symptoms.
